Open Invention Network®
Open Invention Network® is an intellectual property company that was formed to promote Linux by using patents to create a collaborative environment. It promotes a positive, fertile ecosystem for Linux, which in turns drives innovation and choice in the global marketplace. This helps ensure the continuation of innovation that has benefited software vendors, customers, emerging markets and investors.
Open Invention Network® is refining the intellectual property model so that important patents are openly shared in a collaborative environment. Patents owned by Open Invention Network are available royalty-free to any company, institution or individual that agrees not to assert its patents against the Linux System. This enables companies to make significant corporate and capital expenditure investments in Linux – helping to fuel economic growth.
Because Open Invention Network® ensures the openness of the Linux source code, programmers, equipment vendors, ISVs and institutions can invest in and use Linux with less worry about intellectual property issues. This makes it economically attractive for companies that want to repackage, embed, and use Linux to host specialized services or create complementary products.
Open Invention Network® has considerable industry backing. It was launched in 2005, and has received investments from IBM, NEC, Novell, Philips, Red Hat and Sony.

RhinoLINUX Main Edition 7.0
The developers of the RhinoLINUX Operating System family are pleased to announce the availability of RhinoLINUX Main Edition version 7.0, which is our flagship operating system product.
This OS, which is built upon Debian and Ubuntu upstream codebases, (see * below), customized LinuxMint and RhinoLINUX utilities included as well.
RhinoLINUX "Saucy SUZIE" version 7.0 Series
The RhinoLINUX 7.0 Series releases are based on an Ubuntu 13.10 ' Saucy Salamander' codebase. and the 7.0 Editions have binary compatibility with more than 40 000 Ubuntu applications in their 'saucy' software library, as well as many other 3rd party Ubuntu and Debian compatible applications.\
Top Linux applications and tools as well as the top graphical interfaces (called Desktop Environments in Linux) have been bundled automatically with RhinoLINUX 7.0 builds. Excellent tools for disk and data recovery have also been bundled as a matter of course. ALL RhinoLINUX Editions are, in accordance with our Mission Statement and project goals, able to open and view /play ALL common document / multimedia / web application.
Standard filettypes and xommon and popular PC file formats are supported by pre-installation of all necessary codecs / plug-ins / add-ons such as Java / Flash etc.
In addition the Main, KDE and other RhinoLINUX Editions have further bundled additional easy to use applications to create, edit and transcode (convert) popular multimedia applications such as DivX, AVI etc. and to author collections of media such as photographs into collections, with simpe ways to author custom built DVDs or upload them to Facebook/Picasa and other social networks. Often we have used an application that has a Windows equivalent - although only if this was the best app in its category. So we have Handbrake, VLC, DVDstyler media creation, WebHTTrack website cloning solution as well as the ever excellent The GIMP 'Photoshop' equivalent image editing suite - all with Windows versions included with the Main Edition.
RhinoLINUX 7.0 includes the result of 6 months of incremental development by the Linux Mint team on top of stable and reliable technologies.
This new release comes with updated software and brings refinements and new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use.
The Linux Mint team had in turn has built upon the 6 months of work done by the Ubuntu developers.
(See http://www.ubuntu.com for the release notes of Ubuntu 13.10 Desktop edition also known as the "Saucy Salamander" version. As the name implies our "Saucy SUZIE" is able to install all applications in the 'saucy' repository as well as 3rd party apps that support the 'saucy' libraries.)
\We then expanded on the excellent upstream work done by these teams, by adding applications, utilties and other 'bells and whistles' we feel that any end-user Desktop OS should included as standard. We also tried to simplify the User Interfaces - this being done by RhinoLINUX Edition. Lastly we attempted to make everything look better in terms of look and feel, and by using common theme elements across the Editions.
Our Main Edition flagship product once again offers as primary Desktop Environment the excellent MATE Desktop 1.6.1 with enhancements and tools originally from the LinuxMint 'Petra' release. We have also included secondary shells, such as Cairo-Dock/Openbox and also the excellent Lightweight X Desktop Environment (LXDE) - itself worthy of its own Edition. However we plan on including LXDE as official backup desktop shell with every other RhinoLINUX release.
Since the abandonment of the Gnome Project of the Gnome 2.x desktop environment, which was later forked to the MATE Desktop Environment project, we felt strongly that the Gnome 3 project was too confusing, too divergent from their Gnome 2.x roots and too unstable, to be included 'officially' in any edition of RhinoLINUX. This has been the case of more than two years now. However we have kept an eye on the Gnome-Shell 3.x project as it is now called, and finally we feel that the Gnome-Shell is ready to be offered along with other top Linux GUI desktop environments. Therefore the RhinoLINUX 7.0 series will included a Gnome-Shell Edition, currently in final stages of testing.
The end-resulting system RhinoLINUX 7.0 in technical terms has binary compatibility with Ubuntu's 'saucy' repositories.
This gives the RhinoLINUX user immediate one-click access to over 40000 applications which are known to run under the 'saucy' libraries, all available for browsing and easy one-click install for FREE using our RhinoLINUX Software Manager. A brief discussion of the featured and bundled Application Suites follows.
APPLICATION SUITES AND WINDOWS SUPPORT
Our Office bundle has been enhanced by the addition of Evolution Groupware - itself supported by Novell and also available for Windows - as well as the inclusion ofn a top Linux accounting package, GnuCash, and even a little 'Kabikaboo' program to assist those budding creative writers out there.

Other popular applications such as FileZilla, FrostWire peer-to-peer networking client, TeamViewer remote control and desktop sharing tool as well as a lightweight email client Sylpheed are standard with our Main Edition.
